How Often Should You Mow Your Lawn in Southwest Florida?

The honest answer to 'how often should I mow my Florida lawn?' isn't a single number — it depends on the season, the grass type, and how much rain we've had that week. Here's what we've learned mowing hundreds of yards across Port Charlotte, Punta Gorda, Englewood, and North Port.

Summer (June through September) — every week

This is peak growing season. Warm nights, afternoon rain, and full sun push St. Augustine and Bahia into overdrive. A weekly cut keeps the grass at a healthy height and avoids scalping when we finally do get to it.

Skip a week in July and you'll double your mowing time and likely take too much off in one pass. Weekly mowing keeps the lawn thick, weed-poor, and consistent.

Spring and fall — every 7 to 10 days

Growth is a little slower in April/May and October/November, so bi-weekly can work if the yard is healthy — but weekly is still ideal. Storm cleanup and heavier fronds land in this stretch too.

Winter (December through February) — every 2 to 3 weeks

Grass slows way down when temps drop into the 50s at night. Most of our customers switch to bi-weekly (or even every 3 weeks) through the dry season.

Vacation, snowbird, and vacant homes
